Benefits of working out in pairs

Have you been feeling like your workout routine is becoming repetitive and a little lackluster? Whether you are at the start of your health and fitness journey or years down the track it’s important to shake up your exercise regime every now and then. One way to transform your routine is to buddy up and workout in pairs, after all the more the merrier. Here at Glenorchy Health and Fitness we know there’s strength in numbers, here’s the top five benefits of duo workouts.

  1. You’ll show up – no one likes bailing on a friend.

Let’s be honest it’s a lot easier to make excuses to cancel your workouts if you exercise solo. Do you convince yourself you are ‘too tired’, ‘too busy’ or ‘too cold’ to exercise? Stop hitting the snooze button or opting for a Netflix session or social media binge –  it’s time to buddy up and be accountable. It’s a lot tougher to bail if your friend is relying on you. You’re also a lot more likely to plan your classes and schedule your gym sessions ahead of time if you are working out with a friend.

  1. They will help you achieve your goals.

Progress is exciting but it’s even better when you get to share your journey with someone else with similar goals and interests to you. Working out in pairs will help you reach your goals faster. A friend will keep you motivated and help you through the challenges, as well as be there to celebrate your achievements. You’ll also be there to give each other advice along the way – it’s a win-win!

  1. Training becomes more fun and you’ll burn more calories.

Not only will training in pairs improve performance but another major benefit is that working out will be more enjoyable. Results and enjoying yourself goes hand in hand; if you aren’t enjoying what you are doing then you are more likely to give up. As a team you’ll be able to push yourself to the limit and create an unbreakable bond with your workout buddy. This will also mean you’re likely to burn more calories during your workouts – nothing motivates us more than a little bit of friendly competition.

  1. You can do partner exercises.

Mix it up and try new things, including a whole new variety of partner exercises. There will be more variety in your routine whether it be bodyweight exercises, medicine or weighted ball passes or throws, boxing sparring, or partner push-ups – the opportunities are endless! Having somebody else to workout with may be just what you need to add intensity to your routine.

  1. It’s easier to get out of your comfort zone and discover new activities.

Starting something new can be daunting at times but starting your health and fitness journey at the gym doesn’t have to be. If you need encouragement to try something different (whether that’s trying a new class or using equipment for the first time) having a workout buddy will help you get out of your comfort zone. It’s also a lot easier to try new activities whether that’s a scenic bushwalk, a dance class, hot yoga or attempting a new sport; sometimes an outing for two is all you need.
