Improving your health and fitness with Mohan
Want to boost your energy, improve your overall mood and mental health and wellbeing, look and feel good, and even add years to your life? Then exercise and an active lifestyle is just what the Doctor (or Exercise Physiologist) ordered.
For some of us fitting exercise into our everyday life is a matter of working out our schedule but for others injuries, chronic health conditions or mental health issues can make this a lot more difficult. But there’s a way to get back to the gym safely and successfully with the help of Exercise Physiologist Mohan and our helpful staff at Glenorchy Health and Fitness.
Meet Mohan Mattaka he’s our Exercise Physiologist at Glenorchy Health and Fitness. What does he do?
“I help with prevention and treatment for people who are suffering from chronic conditions, chronic injuries, with the help of exercise and lifestyle changes,” Exercise Physiologist Mohan Mattaka said.
He does this by “designing, delivering and evaluating exercise and intervention programs for them. The programs are individualised for each and every person.”
“It’s for all different people, people from various backgrounds, people suffering from cardiac conditions, muscular, neuromuscular, medical disorders, cancer or metabolic issues,” he said.
For many of Mohan’s clients want to exercise but they don’t know what to do or what not to do.
“For example, there was somebody suffering from hypertension and high blood pressure. It’s not good for them to do any exercises above the shoulder level,” he said.
It’s not just life changing for your physical health but also for your mental health.
“Most of them suffer with some disorders, not just big mental disorders but being alone at home, it’s good for them to come out because some of them suffer with depression as well,” he said.
“I had a few clients as well who used a psychiatrist and after coming here they’ve been going there and the psychologist reckons they’ve got a lot better.”
One of the most positive effects = “They are happy and they feel like everyday living is easier.”
Some of the most remarkable success stories?
“One of my clients he had a lot of conditions and had severe mental issues, even the doctor said it’s very hard for him to exercise but we started a particular program. He had very high blood pressure at the start but by the end of the 7 months his blood pressure was normal,” he said.
“I think it’s all because of the exercise and the best thing was the client was happy to do it as well. It’s not like he was only pushed from the family or doctor he wanted to do it.”
Another memorable life changing story for Mohan was about major weight loss – “One man lost 20 kilos in 6 or 7 months.”
“I also had a few clients with very bad backs, unable to keep up with daily living but started to do those things.”
